When I feel overstimulated, overemotional, stressed, etc I have a bad habit of "emotionally flying off the handle" where I dump a lot of what's on my mind in the lap of someone who really had nothing to do with the situation! Later I often feel embarrassed that I acted in such a way. I've tried to find different ways to deal with "irritablity." Medication has helped the most. Getting exercise, having down time, reading, just breathing have also been effective. My main goal for myself is to delay the reaction time, wait and see how I feel later.

What types of tests should be administered if someone is claiming to conduct neuropsychological testing. I recently had my daughter evaluated through what I thought was a reputable clinic but I feel that all we received was a psychoeducational evaluation.
We already had that completed and ALL the recommendations from the testing they did are things we have already done for our daughter. When I asked about other testing the clinical psychologist told me she didn't think it was necessary and when I asked why
she thought it would not be beneficial she repeatedly asked me why I thought they were necessary. When I asked about the difference between psychological testing and neuropsychological testing she told me that "all psychological tests are neuropsychological
because they deal with the brain". She only spent 10 minutes with my daughter and all testing was conducted by someone else. When I asked about certain parts of the test she could not explain how they were scored. My daughter had hydrocephalus and shows many
common characteristics with other children with this problems. I pushed for this testing to try to find out if there are problems with her brain function and when I left I didn't know anything more than I did before. When I asked about the significance of
being board certified in neuropsychology she told me that it was not necessary. All I want is to make sure that I don't look back 10 years from now and realize there was more that could be done to help my daughter. Thanks
